The Llanrwst orefield comprises lead-zinc veins hosted in Ordovician volcano-sedimentary
rocks, and shares many features in common with other British pre-Carboniferous
vein deposits. This study investigates the style of mineralization, mineralogy
and geochemistry of the orefield.
In the late eighteenth century, numerous fine specimens of anglesite were
collected from the copper mines at Parys Mountain. It was from this material
that Beudant characterised the species in 1832.

Fieldwork at this recently discovered locality has revealed an unusual suite
of secondary Cu-Zn-Pb minerals, including abundant crystalline ramsbeckite,
schulenbergite and posnjakite. Excavations were made in undisturbed dump material
allowing the secondary paragenesis to be thoroughly investigated.

Radiating prismatic linarite crystals to 2 mm in length. John Mason specimen (JMPR 553).
Enargite is reported from Gregory Mine, Ashover, Derbyshire, on specimens preserved at Chatsworth House. This is the first record of enargite from the Derbyshire Orefield, and the first record of crystals of enargite from Britain.
Waterbank mine on Ecton Hill has produced a diverse suite of supergene minerals
including the rare species namuwite, posnjakite, ramsbeckite and schulenbergite

Dark blue linarite crystals to 1.5 mm. Steve Rust collection.
